  1. Welcome to FileTyper 4.2.2!

  3. FileTyper is a very popular, small “drop box” program that you can use to quickly change types, creators, and Finder flags. It supports many “power user” features such as batches, filtering, and directory searches.

  5. Version 4.2.2 of FileTyper is distributed under the shareware system. It is not free or public domain software. See the documentation for details, if you are unfamiliar with how shareware works.

  9. IMPORTANT NEWS — 6/16/94

There appears to be a three-way incompatibility with FileTyper Menu, the Thread Manager, and Finders 7.1.3 and later. I have not found a workaround for this yet, so if you are using the Thread Manager and Finder 7.1.3 or later, or System 7.5 (which contains both these components), DO NOT install FileTyper Menu. I also removed the System 6 component, since it doesn’t look like anyone is still using it.

  22. • Recompiled using Codewarrior 6.1.
  23. • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused an AutoTyper to improperly read the “locked” attribute. This caused the GroupUnlock sample AutoTyper to malfunction under some configurations.

  28. INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPGRADING:

  30. Upgrading from version 4.2.1:

  32. You should replace your copies of the FileTyper and MakeAutoTyper applications with the new ones in this package. Nothing else has changed.

  34. Upgrading from version 4.2:
  35.  
  36. The major change has been to AutoTypers; however, minor changes have been made to the FileTyper and MakeAutoTyper applications. You should replace your copies of the FileTyper and MakeAutoTyper applications with the new version, and use your new MakeAutoTyper to update your existing AutoTypers. You do not need to touch your FileTyper Folder.

  38. Upgrading from version 4.0 or 4.1.x:

The prefs and help files have been changed in this version of FileTyper. You will need to replace the prefs and help files in your FileTyper Folder with the new ones in this package. Note that, in FileTyper 4.2, the FileTyper Folder can be located in either the System Folder or the Preferences Folder. Also, if upgrading from FileTyper 4.0, please note that popup menus are now contained in a new file, “FileTyper Popups”, so if you customized your pop-up menus, you should copy your customized MENU resources from your old help file to the new popups file.

FileTyper versions 4.0 and later now come with a FileTyper Folder, which should be placed in your System Folder or your Preferences Folder. This folder contains files that are not required, but are helpful for FileTyper to operate: the help file, which contains balloon help information; the preferences file, which contains saved preferences; and the popups file, which contains popup type and creator menus. The old version 3.x help extension and preferences file are no longer needed and can be thrown away.
